TUESDAY 29TH MAY 2012.
Another overnighter in calm seas from Port Kelang to Penang Malaysia.
The day was overcast and hot and steamy but no pollution. Not as hot as Kuala
Lumpur.
Penang is an Island off the coast of Malaysia and we berthed at the
main city Georgetown. Again we had a full day excursion arranged which included
a tour of the city and outlying areas. The Island is attractive with lush
vegetation and mountainous interior but Georgetown is typical Asian city with
both affluent and poor unkept areas, but unfortunately mainly the latter.
However we had a good day visiting the Baba Nyonya Mansion, an old
colonial home built by a chinese aristocrat in the early 1900’s and recently
restored. Also visited the reclining Budda and Paradise Temples which were real
eye openers. A delicious Malaysian buffet lunch was had in one of Penang’s top
Hotel’s, then in the afternoon we visited the local traditional Batic art and
printing factory and Butterfly Farm and Aviary which were well worth the effort.
Due to time restraints we missed a number of attractions and photo
shoots as it was an early afternoon departure, but we thoroughly enjoyed the
day.
We now have 4 sea days before reaching Mumbai, India.
