MALAYSIA - PENANG

TUESDAY 29TH MAY 2012.

Another overnighter in calm seas from Port Kelang to Penang Malaysia. The day was overcast and hot and steamy but no pollution. Not as hot as Kuala Lumpur.

Penang is an Island off the coast of Malaysia and we berthed at the main city Georgetown. Again we had a full day excursion arranged which included a tour of the city and outlying areas. The Island is attractive with lush vegetation and mountainous interior but Georgetown is typical Asian city with both affluent and poor unkept areas, but unfortunately mainly the latter.

However we had a good day visiting the Baba Nyonya Mansion, an old colonial home built by a chinese aristocrat in the early 1900’s and recently restored. Also visited the reclining Budda and Paradise Temples which were real eye openers. A delicious Malaysian buffet lunch was had in one of Penang’s top Hotel’s, then in the afternoon we visited the local traditional Batic art and printing factory and Butterfly Farm and Aviary which were well worth the effort.

Due to time restraints we missed a number of attractions and photo shoots as it was an early afternoon departure, but we thoroughly enjoyed the day.

We now have 4 sea days before reaching Mumbai, India.

MALAYSIA - PORT KELANG AND KUALA LUMPUR

MONDAY 28th MAY 2012.

In calm seas overnight we arrived at Port Kelang Malaysia for our visit to Kuala Lumpur. The day was very hot and muggy with overcast skies. We had a full day excursion arranged and visited the Blue Mosque  on the way to Kuala Lumpur which was about one and a half hours by bus from Port Kelang. The Mosque is a very modern building and very impressive.

Kuala Lumpur is a large and fairly modern and impressive city, but it was spoilt a bit this day by a layer of smog. However we visited and went to the top of the KL Tower which gave us a magnificent view of the city. We also had a close photo stop of the twin Petronas Towers and flybridge and what a magnificent structure it is. We also had a local cuisine buffet lunch at a city restaurant which topped off a great but tiresome day.

We are still good and hanging loose.

We overnight to Penang in Malaysia tomorrow.

SINGAPORE - Photos.

Singapore

SUNDAY 27th May 2012.

After five days at sea in calm seas and clear weather we reached Singapore this morning. The ship berthed at the their brand new shipping terminal right adjacent to the city. Quite a bit better tha our tent terminal in Sydney The day was overcast and raining when we arrived, however the rain cleared and it turned out to be a good day  of about 29 degrees.

We spent the day visiting the Battlefields on Singapore which included the Changi Museum, Kranji War Memorial, Fort Canning and  the underground bunkers called the Battle Box where the final decision was made for the surrender on Singapore in 1942.

It was a real eye opener to see first hand what happened to Singapore during the Second  World War. The visit was well worth the effort and we had a good day.

Tonight we have a short overnite crossing of the Malay Strait for Port Kelang and Kuala Lumpur.

Back on board after lunch for a relaxing afternoon with an early departure at 4pm. We are now steeming through the Beagel Gulf into the Timor Sea on our way to Singapore next Sunday
