PORTUGAL LISBON

WEDNESDAY 4th July 2012.

After two days sailing through the Mediterranean and Alboran Seas through the Gibralter Strait into the Atlantic Ocean in calm and moderate seas we reached the Port City of Lisbon in Portugal. The day was overcast and a cool 22 degrees. The sail was a little  bit disappointing as the Rock of Gibraltar was shrouded in mist and difficult to see.

Again we had just a half day in Port which only enabled us to do a land short tour of the major city attractions in Lisbon, which included the old city Quarter of Alfama, the Maritime Museum and the Jeronimos Monastery which was built in the 17th century. Also included were photo stops at the Belem Tower and The Monument of Discoveries. All involved a good history lesson on Lisbon and well worth the visit, and in particular the inside of the monastery which was absolutely magnificent.

Lisbon is a very nice, clean and well set out and planned city built around a beautiful harbour. It was a shame we had so short a visit as it has many other worth while attractions to see. This will probably be sufficient reason to come back in the future.

We now have two more sea days before we reach Le Havre in France.
