ATHENS GREECE

FRIDAY 22nd JUNE 2012.

We arrived at the Sea Port of Piraeus the Gateway to Greece and Athens after one and a half days sailing from Istanbul in calm seas to a clear and bright sunny day of about 28 degrees.

As it was only a short stay of 6 hours in Port we decided to try the “Red Hop On Hop Off Bus”for a short tour of the city of Athens which also included a photo stop at the Acropolis. Athens is a very big spread out  city and is about 30 minutes drive from the Port of Piraeus. The city was pretty clean with unbelievable traffic everywhere, but surprisingly there was no evidence of any political upheavel the country has been experiencing recently. Not so much of a surprise was the amount of tourists at the Acropolis. There was a lot of people on the mount mainly as a result of four cruise  ships in port which included the Crown Princess which has 3,800 passengers.

The bus tour was a good experience and well worth the effort considering the limited time we had available. Athens is a nice city which definitely deserves a visit.

It was an early afternoon departure with two days sailing to Venice.
