MYKONOS & THE DARDANELLES

TUESDAY 19th JUNE 2012.

After one and a half days sailing from Alexandria through the Mediterranean s in strong winds and white capped seas we reached the Greek island of Mykonos in the Aegean Sea this morning with wind blowing at nearly 60 knots.

Mykonos is a tendered in Port which required the ship to be anchored off shore. Due to the extremely high winds and rough seas off the island the ship’s captain decided to abort the landing in Mykonos, so unfortunately we missed the day in Mykonos and continued on to our next port of Instanbul.

Later in the day we had the opportunity to sail through the Dardanelles in daylight hours. This is an extremely narrow channel 23 kms long and 1km wide between the Aegean Sea and the Sea of  Marmara leading to Instanbul, which is usually travelled at night.

Tomorrow is the day for Instanbul Turkey.
