SATURDAY 9th June 2012.
After two days of sailing from Dubai in moderate seas we reached
Salalah on the south coast of Oman this morning. We arrived in thick fog, but
this soon lifted to a dry sunny and hazy day of about 31 degrees.
The time in Port was restricted to 5 hours however we had a short land
excursion arranged to see the tomb of the prophet “ Job “ and the ancient
frankincence trees, together with a tour of the nearby panoramic Qara
mountains.
With the exception of the surrounding town district, the area is
literally a moonscape and rocky desert with barren hills and mountains as a
backdrop. The country is a typical Arabic area which needed a good clean up.
However the tour although educational was a bit of a let down. “Jobs” tomb was
a little more than a concrete out house with nothing else than what appeared to
be a grave inside covered with coloured shawls. They also took us out by bus
about 30ks to see one half dead frankincence tree in the middle of nowhere in
the desert. Not a good look.
Not worth the effort and would not be on the short list to visit again.
Looking forward to visiting Safaga , Karnack and the Valley of the
Kings in three days time.
Desert country Salalah Oman, our tour guide and the Frankincence Tree.
Hi Marilyn & Warwick, Trting to help Carol with the blog will get back to you later Bob
ReplyDeleteHigh WarwicK & Marilyn,
ReplyDeleteAs I mentioned Carol and I spent some time on the phone today to get her up and running but we did not have any success. There appears some little glitch that is stopping things. I think Carol is going to persist. The photos and comments are interesting. As you say a very desolate looking area. It must have felt weird looking down from 124 floors up. You would have to have absolute confidence in the engineers. Weather in Coffs quite cold and looks like being that way next week Sonia goes back to the hospital on Tuesday and hopefully gets a smaller cast so she might be able to be a bit more mobile. Tigers beat the storm last Friday, close game. Stay well and we'll talk again soon.
Love Sonia & Bob
Hi Warwick & Marilyn, Just testing this site. I am having trouble accessing my table tennis account and thought I may have signed out of this one. Sonia got a smaller fibre glass cast on yesterday and is much happier. It is much lighter and only goes from her wrist to just below her elbow. Much more comfortable. Has to go back in three weeks. Need to sort this tt thing out and will writr again soon.
