ISTANBUL TURKEY

WEDNESDAY 20th JUNE 2012

After a day and night sailing in windy and moderate seas through the Sea of Marmara we entered the Bosporus and berthed in Istanbul to a bright sunny but windy day. The temperature was a cool 24 degrees and it was good to get away from the stifling heat of Egypt.

Istanbul is built mainly on the Asian side of the Bosporus Straits and is a big cosmopolitan and bussling city. It is an amazing city with a mixture of old and new, clean and very easy to get around and one which you would want to come back to. As we had seen the major attractions of Istanbul on our last cruise, our land excursion only took us by shuttle bus to the Grand Bazaar and surrounds which we missed last time. This was an unbelievable sight to see, literally hundreds of small shops selling everything you could think of. We walked the walk for a couple of hours, did some bargaining and intensive shopping and then shuttled back to the ship for an early departure.

It was good to visit Istanbul again as it is must see city in this region.

Tomorrow we visit Anzac Cove for Scenic Cruising before making our way to Athens.
