SUNDAY 3RD JUNE 2012.
We have now steamed some 7000 nautical miles from Sydney to Mumbai
India. We arrived some 4 hours late due to heavy seas and monsoonal head winds
coming across the Bay of Bengal.
On arrival in Mumbai the weather was cloudy, hot and humid and about 33
degrees. Mumbai is to the north and on the west coast of India. We had a land
excursion arranged to visit the Elephanta Island and Caves. The excursion first
visited the beautiful Taj Mahal Hotel and to the Gateway of India to catch our
luxury launch for the 1 hour boat trip to Elphanta Island.
This was an experience to behold, the trip took about one and a half
hours in an old dilapidated ferry built
in the days of the ark. We also walked the gauntlet with a sea of human
Humanity. It was simply mind boggling the amount of people in Mumbai. The caves
are Heritage Listed but the place is treated like a rubbish tip and was not a
good look at all. However the caves themselves which are over 1600 years old were
extremely interesting and excavated in sandstone within a mountaintop.Well
worth the look to go.
The tour was an hour late getting back to the ship and we were all glad
to get on board and on our way.
Next stop Dubai after two sea days
