STRAITS OF MESSINA & STROMBOLI VOLCANO

WEDNESDAY 27th JUNE 2012.

On our way to Naples from Dubrovnik we passed through the Straits of Messina between the boot of Italy and Sicilly. The Straits are only 3nm across at its narrowest point and coming through the Straits it was a beautiful clear and sunny day with the sea smooth as glass. The scenery along the Straight was picture perfect and a sight to see. The volcano of Mt Etna could also be seen in the distance.

Approx 3 hours later the Volcanic Island of Stromboli came into view. We passed by about 1km off shore and what a sight this was, out in the middle of a glassy sea with clear blue skies in the late afternoon. The volcano is active and put on a show with a small eruption as we passed by.

This made our day
